Orcas Island 4-H Youth Development Programs

4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential.  Our island clubs have a fabulous community of young people discovering leadership, citizenship and life skills. We employ a “learn by doing” approach and we utilize the mentorship of knowledgeable, talented islanders with the goal of fostering leadership, responsibility, and caring, that strengthens our families and communities.

All children, age five to 19, can join Trailblazers our horse 4-H Club and/or Fur & Feathers our livestock, small animals, crafts, performing arts 4-H Club.


 4-H Member categories are:

Primary: 5 years old – 2nd Grade
Junior: 3rd – 5th Grade
Intermediate: 6th – 8th Grade
Senior: 9th – 12th Grade

Our clubs meet monthly, participate in community service projects and 4-H members show their projects at the Annual San Juan County Fair  (held every third week in August in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, WA).

About 4-H in San Juan County, Washington State

The 4-H year begins on October 1st of each year and is completed on September 30th.

There are projects for any child from age 5-19 (K through 12th grade). Each island in San Juan County has a variety of clubs that are available to join. If you want to learn more about joining 4-H please contact our leaders or the County 4-H Program Coordinator at (360) 370-7662. Once you decide to join, you will be asked to fill out an enrollment form and to pay a $16.00 enrollment fee for each member.
